CBSE Class 9 Maths Syllabus Unit I: Matter-Nature and Behaviour

  •  Definition of matter; solid, liquid and gas; 

  • Characteristics - shape, volume, density; change of statemelting (absorption of heat), freezing, evaporation (cooling by evaporation), condensation, sublimation. 

Nature of matter:

  •  Elements, compounds and mixtures.

CBSE Class 9 Maths Syllabus Unit IV: Food Production 

  • Plant and animal breeding and selection for quality improvement and management; 

  • Use of fertilisers and manures;

Conducting practical experiments with theoretical concepts is imperative for a comprehensive understanding. Below is a list of experiments to be undertaken:

Unit I: Chemical Processes

Preparation of Solutions and Suspensions

a) True solutions of common salt, sugar, and alum

b) Suspensions of soil, chalk powder, and fine sand in water

c) Colloidal solutions of starch in water and egg albumin/milk in water, distinguishing based on transparency, filtration criterion, and stability.

Identification of Mixtures and Compounds

a) Creating a mixture using iron filings and sulfur powder

b) Creating a compound using iron filings and sulfur powder, distinguishing based on appearance, magnetism, carbon disulfide behaviour, and heat response.

Classification of Reactions

Perform reactions and classify them as physical or chemical changes:

a) Iron with copper sulfate solution in water

b) Burning of magnesium ribbon in air

c) Zinc with dilute sulfuric acid

d) Heating of copper sulfate crystals

e) Sodium sulfate with barium chloride in water solutions.

Unit-II: Biological and Tissue Studies

Preparation of Stained Temporary Mounts:

a) Onion peel

b) Human cheek cells

Record observations and draw labelled diagrams.

Identification of Plant and Animal Tissues

Identify Parenchyma, Collenchyma, and Sclerenchyma tissues in plants, muscle fibres, and animal nerve cells from prepared slides. Draw labelled diagrams.

Unit-I: Physical Processes

  • Determination of Melting and Boiling Points

  • Determine the melting point of ice and the boiling point of water.

  • Acoustic Experiments

  • Verify the laws of reflection of sound.

Unit-III: Density and Properties of Matter

  • Determine the density of a solid denser than water using a spring balance and a measuring cylinder.

  • Establishing the relation between Loss in Weight and Immersed Solids

  • Establish the relation between a solid's weight loss when fully immersed in tap water and strongly salty water, using at least two solids.

 

Propagation of Pulses

Determine the speed of a pulse propagated through a stretched string/slinky (helical spring).

Chemical Reaction and Conservation of Mass

Verify the law of conservation of mass in a chemical reaction.
