The examination will include more competency-based questions The new CBSE syllabus for this academic session is divided into seven units, which are as follows:

  • Number Systems

  • Algebra

  • Coordinate Geometry

  • Geometry

  • Trigonometry

  • Mensuration

  • Statistics & Probability

These units collectively encompass a total of 15 chapters. Students are encouraged to review the complete syllabus provided in this article and can also download it in PDF format from the link provided on this page. This comprehensive syllabus ensures that students are well-prepared for the upcoming board examinations and can effectively demonstrate their competency in various Mathematical topics.

CBSE Class 10 Maths Syllabus 2023-24

The CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Syllabus is periodically updated to reflect the evolving nature of the subject and the changing demands of society. The revised CBSE Class 10 syllabus 2023-24 has been developed in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and adheres to the recommendations outlined by the Focus Group on Teaching Mathematics. This curriculum aims to cater to the diverse needs of students.

At the Secondary stage, the primary objective of this curriculum is to enhance student's ability to apply Mathematics to address everyday life challenges and to study the subject as a distinct discipline. It is expected that students will develop the proficiency to solve problems using algebraic methods and utilise their understanding of basic trigonometry to tackle height and distance-related problems effectively.

CBSE Class 10 Maths Syllabus 2023-24 Chapter -Wise

Below, you will find a discussion of the chapters included in each unit of the CBSE Class 10 Maths Syllabus, along with the topics covered in each chapter:

Unit I: Number Systems

Chapter 1. Real Number:

  • Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic - Statements after reviewing work done earlier and after illustrating and motivating through examples,

  • Proofs of the irrationality of roots 2, 3, and 5.

UNIT II: Algebra

Chapter 1. Polynomials

  • Zeros of a polynomial.

  • Relationship between zeros and coefficients of quadratic polynomials.

Chapter 2. Pair of Linear Equation In Two Variables

  •  Periods Pair linear equations in two variables and graphical method of their solution, consistency/inconsistency.

  • Algebraic conditions for some solutions.

  • Solution of a pair of linear equations in two variables algebraically - by substitution, by elimination.

  • Simple situational problems.

Chapter 3. Quadratic Equations

  • The standard form of a quadratic equation.

  • Solutions of quadratic equations (only real roots) by factorisation and using quadratic formulas.

  • Relationship between discriminant and nature of roots.

  • Situational problems based on quadratic equations related to day-to-day activities must be incorporated.

Chapter 4. Arithmetic Progressions

  • Motivation for studying Arithmetic Progression

  • Derivation of the nth term and sum of the first n terms of A.P. and their application in solving daily life problems.

UNIT III: Coordinate Geometry

Chapter 1: Coordinate Geometry

  • Concepts of coordinate geometry,

  • Graphs of linear equations.

  • Distance formula

  • Section formula (internal division).

Unit 1V: Geometry

Chapter 1: Triangles

  • Definitions, examples, and counter examples of similar triangles.

  • The proof of the statement: If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle and intersects the other at distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.

  • The motivation behind the statement: If a line divides two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, the line is parallel to the third side.

  • The motivation behind the statement: If in two triangles, the corresponding angles are equal, their corresponding sides are proportional, and the triangles are similar.

  • The motivation behind the statement: If the corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional, their corresponding angles are equal, and the two triangles are similar.

  • The motivation behind the statement: If one angle of a triangle is equal to one angle of another triangle, and the sides, including these angles, are proportional, the two triangles are similar.

Chapter 2: Tangent to a Circle at the Point of Contact

In this section, we will explore the properties of tangents to a circle at the point of contact. The following proofs are provided:

  • The proof that the tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius passing through the point of contact.

  • The proof is that the lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are always equal.

UNIT V: Trigonometry

Chapter 1: Introduction to Trigonometry

  • Trigonometric ratios of an acute angle of a right-angled triangle.

  • Proof of their existence (well defined); motivate the ratios at 0⁰and 90⁰.

  • Values of the trigonometric ratios of 30⁰, 45⁰, and 60⁰.

  • Relationships between the ratios.

2. Trigonometrirc Identities

  • Proof and applications of the identity sin2A + cos2A = 1.

  • Only simple identities are to be given.

Chapter  3. Heights and Distances:

  • The angle of elevation,

  • Angle of depression.

  • Simple problems on heights and distances.

  • Problems should not involve more than two right triangles.

  • Angles of elevation/depression should be only 30°, 45°, and 60°

Unit VI: Mensuration

Chapter 1: Area related to Circles

  • Area of sectors and segments of a circle.

  • Problems based on areas and perimeter/circumference of the above-said plane figures. (In calculating the area of a segment of a circle,

  • Problems should be restricted to the central angle of 60°, 90° and 120° only.

Chapter 2: Surface area and volumes

  • Surface areas and volumes of combinations of any of the following: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres and right circular cylinders/cones. UNIT VII:

Unit VII: Statistics and Probability

 Chapter 1: Statistics

Mean, median and mode of grouped data (bimodal situation to be avoided).

Chapter 2:  Probability

  • The classical definition of probability.

  • Simple problems on finding the probability of an event.
