NEET Tie Breaking Policy 2025 Released: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has published the NEET 2025 information brochure on its official website, neet.nta.nic.in. According to the notification, candidates can complete the NEET 2025 registration from February 7 to March 7, 2025. A key update this year is the introduction of a new tie-breaking rule. In 2025, NTA will follow a random selection process under the supervision of an independent expert committee if all other existing criteria fail to resolve the tie.
As lakhs of medical aspirants appear for NEET exam, multiple candidates often secure identical scores. Therefore, the tie-breaking process is essential for rank allocation. Over the years, NTA has refined the tie-breaking policy to ensure fairness in the ranking system. In NEET 2025, a new provision has been introduced which will be applicable if no resolution is reached through the standard tie-breaking parameters.
Rules of NEET Tie-Breaking Policy 2025
To ensure a fair ranking system, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has updated the tie-breaking criteria for NEET UG 2025. When multiple candidates achieve the same score, a structured tie-breaking process is applied to determine their ranking. The revised criteria for tie breaking are as follows:
-
Candidates with higher scores in Biology (Botany & Zoology) will be ranked higher.
-
If the tie persists, preference will be given to those with higher marks in Chemistry.
-
If needed, Physics scores will be considered next to break the tie.
-
In case the tie remains unresolved, candidates with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects will be ranked higher.
-
Further, preference will be given to candidates with fewer incorrect responses in Biology.
-
If required, the number of incorrect attempts in Chemistry will be considered.
-
If the tie still persists, candidates with fewer wrong answers in the Physics section will be preferred for a higher rank.
-
If no resolution is reached after applying all previous criteria, the ranking will be determined through a random selection process overseen by an independent expert committee.
