The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) is a competitive medical entrance exam held in India for admission to various undergraduate medical programs. The NEET exam is based on three subjects, out of which Biology has the highest weightage, accounting for half of the total marks. A strong understanding of the biology syllabus can help students prepare for the exam and improve their scores. The NEET 2024 Syllabus has recently been modified by the National Medical Commission (NMC), with a few items added and removed. In this article, we have provided the latest updates on the NEET Biology Syllabus 2024.  

NEET Biology Exam Pattern 2024

In the NEET 2024 exam, candidates need to answer a total of 180 questions each carrying 4 marks. Out of these 180 questions, 90 questions will cover the Biology syllabus. The Biology section of NEET 2024 has two parts: Zoology and Botany. The questions and mark distribution of these two parts are given below.

  • Zoology: 45 questions (180 marks)

  • Botany: 45 questions (180 marks)

Topics Added to the NEET Biology Syllabus 2024

The topics listed below have recently been added to the Biology syllabus for NEET 2024. This is also included in the revised NEET 2024 Biology syllabus. The newly added topics are listed below.  

  • Family (Malvaceae, Cruciferae, Leguminosae, Compositae, Gramineae).

  • Insect (Frog)

These topics are not part of the NCERT biology syllabus, so candidates need to look for various alternative resources to study the topics mentioned above.

NMC has deleted some of the topics from the present Biology syllabus for the NEET 2024 exam. The deleted topics per the revised NEET Biology syllabus 2024 are listed below.
