NRI Students After JEE Main 2025: The JEE Main 2025 Session 1 results have been released by NTA. Now, the NRI students aspiring to secure admission to India's top engineering institutions must take the next step to strengthen their candidature.

There are multiple pathways available for NRI candidates. However, choosing the right course of action depends on candidates’ JEE Main score, eligibility for JEE Advanced, and the admission requirements of their preferred college.

Check Eligibility for JEE Advanced 2025

Candidates who have cleared the cut-off for JEE Advanced 2025 are eligible to register for the JEE Advanced exam. This is the next phase of the selection process for IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.

IITs do not have a separate quota for NRI students, meaning the admission process is the same as for Indian nationals. Therefore, candidates must start preparing strategically for the JEE Advanced exam once they are certain that they meet all the eligibility requirements for JEE Advanced. To boost their chances of selection, candidates should focus on the JEE Advanced syllabus, revise important topics, and practice previous years’ question papers. Additionally, keeping track of registration deadlines is essential to avoid missing out on this opportunity.

Provided below are the key dates for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam:

Apply for Admission Through DASA Scheme

For NRI, PIO, and foreign nationals, the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme is a great alternative for B.Tech admission in India. Through DASA, students can secure admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

Here are the key considerations for admission through the DASA scheme:

  • Admission is based on candidates’ JEE Main scores.

  • Limited seats are available, and tuition fees are higher for NRI students compared to Indian citizens.

  • The application process for DASA is expected to start in April-May 2025.

  • To strengthen one’s chances of securing admission through DASA, candidates should apply early and submit all the documents required for the verification and admission process.

Explore State and Private Universities in India

If NRI candidates’ JEE Main score does not meet the cut-off for JEE Advanced or DASA, they must search for private and state universities in India that accept NRIs. To create a list of these colleges, candidates must check for the average JEE Main scores accepted by them in past years. Further, candidates should apply to colleges that have JEE main cut-offs around their overall JEE scores.

Here are some notable private engineering colleges in India that offer admission to NRI candidates:

  • BITS Pilani (India & Dubai campuses)

  • SRM University

  • VIT Vellore

  • Manipal Institute of Technology

  • MSRIT Bangalore

Each university follows a different eligibility criteria, admission process, and fee structure. Before starting the application process, NRI candidates must visit their official websites for details.

Prepare for Counselling and Admission Process

Once candidates have identified their preferred institutes to pursue B.Tech, they must complete the application process according to the guidelines of each college. Further, they must prepare for the counselling and admission process.

Here are the crucial steps candidates must consider for the admission process in engineering colleges:

  • Gather and arrange necessary documents, including passport, academic certificates, JEE Main scorecard, documents for academic qualification, etc.

  • Check tuition fees and available scholarships for NRI students.

  • Track counselling dates for DASA, NITs, IIITs, and private universities.

  • Look for accommodation and hostel facilities offered by the college.
