-
Elimination of Optional Questions
In JEE Main Paper 1, Section B will no longer have optional questions. Candidates must answer all the five questions in this section. This change applies to all three papers, including the Mathematics section in Paper 2A and Paper 2B.
-
Paper Structure
Question patterns of all the papers of JEE Main have been modified. The details of the question pattern of JEE Main according to the latest NTA guidelines are provided below:
-
Paper 1 (BE/BTech):This paper will consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and 15 numerical questions equally divided across all three sections (Physics, Chemistry, and Maths). The total mark of JEE Main Paper 1 is 300.

JEE Main 2025 New Rules for PwD Candidates
The NTA has introduced new JEE Main rules for candidates with disabilities (PwD). These changes are designed to ensure that candidates have equal opportunities to perform their best during the examination.
Here are JEE Main latest guidelines 2025 for PwD:
-
Additional Time: PwD and PwBD candidates will be granted an extra hour. This shows that candidates with disabilities will get a total of 4 hours to complete their JEE Main exam.
-
Scribe Support: Candidates who need assistance in marking their answers are allowed to bring a scribe to the exam. To use a scribe, they must submit the necessary certification during the application process.
-
Compensatory Time: The term "extra time" is now officially referred to as "compensatory time." The compensatory time provided to PwD candidates is not less than 20 minutes for each hour of the exam. If the exam duration is less than 1 hour, PwD candidates will get additional time on a pro-rata basis. Additionally, the minimum added time will be 5 minutes or multiple of 5.
JEE Main 2025 New Rules for Aadhaar Card Name
To address the issue of Aadhaar card name mismatches during the JEE Main application process, NTA has introduced some modifications to the online form submission process. If candidates receive a notification after selecting "Confirm Name as per Aadhaar," they must close the box. Afterwards, they must proceed with the Aadhaar authentication process through a new window. In this step, candidates must ensure to enter their name accurately that matches with the Aadhaar card.
New Regulations for JEE Main 2025 Tie-Breaker Policy
The tie-breaking policy has been updated to ensure a fairer and more transparent ranking system for candidates with equal scores. In previous years, factors such as the candidate's age or the number of years taken to complete the examination were considered to resolve ties. However, in 2025, the following rules will be followed to break ties among candidates securing equal scores in the JEE Main exam:
-
Mathematics Score: If two candidates have the same overall score, the one with the higher score in Maths will get a higher rank.
-
Physics Score: If their Mathematics scores are also identical, candidates with a high Physics score will get priority.
-
Chemistry Score: If both Mathematics and Physics scores are the same, marks in the Chemistry score of JEE Main will be used to break the tie.
-
Correct-to-Wrong Answer Ratio: If a tie persists even after comparing sectional marks, the ratio of correct answers to incorrect answers will be considered, with candidates having a better ratio getting a higher rank. This will be applied to each subject in the order of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
-
Same Rank: If the tie remains unresolved after all the above criteria, the candidates will be assigned the same rank.
JEE 2025 Eligibility Criteria Updates for JEE Advanced
For JEE Advanced 2025, one of the significant changes introduced by NTA is that only those candidates who achieve a qualifying score in JEE Mains will be allowed to take the JEE Advanced exam. Additionally, candidates must meet the specific class 12 marks requirements to participate in JEE Advanced. Candidates who don’t fulfil these criteria won’t be shortlisted for the JEE Advanced exam. However, eligibility is not solely determined by the JEE Mains score. This dual requirement emphasises the importance of balancing preparation for both the JEE Mains and board exams to make it to the JEE Advanced merit list.
