JEE Main 2024 Ranking System
For a fair ranking system, NTA follows a score normalisation system. In this system, Candidates' raw score is converted into a percentile score. Candidates who achieve the 100 percentile are ranked 1 in the exam.
To avoid ties among candidates, NTA calculates the percentile score up to seven decimal points. The percentile score in JEE Main represents the candidates who score equal to or below a specific candidate. The percentile score in JEE Main is measured in a range of 0 to 100.
To calculate JEE Main percentile score, the following formula is applied:
JEE Main Percentile = No. of candidates in a session securing raw score less than or equal to total raw score Total number of candidates in JEE Main session 100
Besides the overall JEE Main percentile, NTA also calculates the sectional percentile for physics, Chemistry, and Maths through the following formula:
JEE Maths Percentile = No. of candidates in a session scoring equal to or less than total raw score in Maths Total number of candidates in JEE Main session100
JEE Physics Percentile = No. of candidates in a session scoring equal to or less than total raw score in PhysicsTotal number of candidates in JEE Main session 100
JEE Chemistry Percentile =No. of candidates in a session scoring equal to or less than total raw score in ChemistryTotal number of candidates in JEE Main session 100
JEE Main 2024 Tie Breaker Policy
In situations where two or more candidates achieve identical percentile scores, the inter-se merit is established based on the following rules:
-
Candidates securing a higher Percentile Score in Mathematics get priority for higher ranking.
-
If a tie persists, the candidate with a higher Percentile Score in Physics receives a higher rank.
-
If a tie still persists, preference is given to the candidate with a higher Percentile Score in Chemistry.
-
In case the tie is not resolved in the third step, older candidates will get a higher rank.
